Breaks, focus and your settings

Why breaks come every seven minutes, what focus measures, what the week's contract is and what you can change in your settings.

3 min read

Nobody focuses for 45 minutes straight, least of all when the topic is boring. FocusTutor doesn't try: it works in 7-minute blocks with a break between each. The break is part of studying.

What focus is

During a session the app notices signals: switching tabs, going idle, saying you got distracted. With that it computes a focus score per session. It is not a grade: it's information to adjust the block size. If your family chose “Natural pace”, breaks come when the signals say they're needed.

The week's contract

Each week you can accept three short goals: study so many days, complete so many challenges, consolidate so many topics. If you meet them before Sunday, there's extra XP. You decide whether to accept; nobody forces you.

Your settings

In Settings you choose how Alaric explains: humor level, emojis or not, short or long chunks, and the interface language. What you can't change are limits and permissions: your family sets those.
